Spring Fever

After spending the past week in "warm" weather, I can say for certain that spring fever is a real thing. What is spring fever you say? LET ME TELL YOU!

Spring Fever occurs at the onset of nice, warm weather. It usually results in behavioral, mood, and sometimes even physical changes. Personally, spring fever for me looks like me being even more chatty than usual, feeling like I am bouncing off the walls, a MAJOR lack of focus. Sometimes when it's sunny outside and I'm in class, my professors start to sound like Charlie Brown's grandma "waa... waa waa." As soon as the sun comes out and it hits 50 degrees, I'm a new person entirely.

When I was in Michigan last week, spring fever hit hard. My friends had to DRAG me back inside the house and basically force me to go to bed because I was just in such a good mood, enjoying the weather and the environment! Spring break was an eventful week to say the least... but so much fun was had, and so many memories were made!

I don't even know where to start! I guess I will begin with my trip to Michigan with my friends, which was amazing! However, as amazing as it was, there are some more interesting stories I feel like sharing today.

(Be prepared for a photo dump, my apologies in advance!)

So, jump to Monday morning. I had to go meet my friends in Columbus because that's where we were leaving from. (Side note: I basically need to move there because I spend more time there than home I swear! But that's for another time.) Anyways, I woke up bright and early and left Cincinnati at 6:00 a.m. to start the trip. I was so excited that I did in fact BLAST Hannah Montana music the entire two hours and was really just living my best life. When I got to my friend's house, they were finishing packing the car and we hit the road right away. It's about an eight hour drive to Petoskey, not to fear though because we created a playlist in advance to last the whole drive.

Now, HERE is where it starts to get interesting. About an hour into our drive, we are heading up Route 68 in Kenton. If you've driven there before you know that it's your standard, two lane country road. We are going north on 68, it's still early so there's not many cars on the road yet except for a couple of Semis going the opposite direction. So, two semi trucks are going south on 68 as were going north, we're getting close to each other, but it should be no problem because we're going opposite directions in opposite lanes, right? WRONG!! The second semi driver decides that the one in front is going too slow and he just had to get around him right that second. Paying no attention to the fact that the lane next to him is going the opposite direction, he gets over into our lane to try to pass the truck infront of him. I swear this guy must have been drunk or high or something, because in the blink of an eye there is a semi truck driving head on at us in our lane. The truck and us were both pushing at least 70 mph, and he switched lanes maybe 100 feet infront of us. THANKFULLY I was not the one driving because I probably would've just sped up right into the truck. My friend driving though was calm and in the approximately three seconds we had before the truck hit us, she swerved off the road into the ditch on the side. So now there's a minivan of college girls in a ditch on the side of the road, all spiraling on how we were about a second away from a head on collision with a semi truck, with no chance we would've survived that. Luckily there were some very nice humans who lived in a house right by the ditch we were in who saw the whole thing. They came out and called the cops for us, made sure that we were ok, and then helped us get the car out of the ditch so we could continue on our merry way! Basically, we needed a vacation from the first hour of the trip!

Fear not, we did end up making it to Michigan in one piece, with no more near death experiences! This is where the real spring fever comes in. Petoskey was BEAUTIFUL! My friend lives right on the lake with the most stunning view, the weather was amazing, it was just the must relaxing week with my roommates! We did a lot of running, because live love track season am I right?! We also broke our bank accounts, drank way too much coffee, took too many pictures, and had too much fun! (Cringey I know but I can't help it!) Now, here comes the photo dump from some super happy days!

CUTEST brunch spot in downtown!
Prettiest place to run!

The trip came to an end Thursday morning and we hit the road to head home. I didn't think anything could top the chaos that was the drive there... but I think the trip home might have topped it. As most of us know by now, some pretty serious tornados hit Ohio on Thursday night. This was devastating to so many people, and ultimately we are so fortunate that our homes and loved ones all remained safe. We were driving home though right as the storm hit and it was terrifying honestly. We were driving through Kenton when it got really bad. We had to turn around and stop at a gas station right outside of town for a little bit. We legitimately saw the physical tornado travel through the town in front of us and it was so scary. Once we saw it passed through Kenton, we basically sped to the next down and then waited there for it to pass. We were essentially playing frogger with a tornado! We stopped in Marysville, and it was really bad there, power lines were down and trees had fallen across the roads and stuff. After Marysville we hurried to Delaware, and the tornado has JUST passed through there. It hit pretty hard there, the power was out pretty much the whole time so the only light we had while driving was from the lightning. FINALLY we were able to make it to Upper Arlington, where we all stayed at my friends house because no one wanted to drive anymore. Ultimately, this was by far the very best spring break I have ever had, but also definitely the most eventful!
